Irene.
PS: Irene please keep the crazy ass Texans in Texas. Please? There was a group of peeps from TX at the GR show...(read below in the write up).
Ok. First off, probably the only thing you guys care about: THE PICTURES.
Clicky, ClickyI'll post some in this post too. If you want to see what this write up looks like when it is properly spaced and everything go
HereHere's the Write Up:
My sister and I decided to try and be there about an hour and a half before doors opened, cause we didn't think there would be too many KH fans. So we leave and get down to the venue and there are like 15 or so people in line outside, we both had to go to the bathroom, and didn't want to wait till the opened the doors and let us in. We decide to go to a gas station. We get there and the guy tells us it's out of order. GRRRR. So where I went to college was just a little up the road, so we stopped there andthe campus was completely closed up. We try another gas station and they didn't have a bathroom. We were near the hospital and I was like as a last resort we could probably go there. ha. But then I'm like "DUH! there is a Burger King and a McDonald's across the street from the hospital, we'll go to one of those" So we ended up going to McDonalds.
We get back to the venue and we can't find parking. The lot where we typically park illegally, was filled and it had a new "all violators will be towed" type sign up...the public lot we park in sometimes, had a "card access only" sign up and barricades blocking the entrance and exit...so we kind of freaked...but we drove around a bit and we parked by the city bus station and walked like a block back to the venue.
There were probably another five people in line more than there was the first time we drove by. We get in line...and EW! right in front of where we are there was green vomit (the show was the night after St. Patrick's day and The Intersection had a big St. P's day party..YUCK.).
FennFenn is a local band (they're from Muskegon, which is lik 20 minutes or so from my house). They are a Screamo band. They were actually quite good. I liked them. There was a lot of mic swinging, you know like all the screamo band singers do. Lol. There really isn't a lot to say about them...ummm...they kind of reminded me of Saosin.
The Fight SceneI don't know where this band is from (probably local). I tried to find them online but all I could find for "The Fight Scene" is some band from Texas who broke up last year. Before the first band and between the 1st & 2nd they kept playing Atreyu music....well this band sounded A TON like Atreyu. They sorta even looked like them and the one guitarist had a very Atreyu-esque guitar (white with the red bloodlike splatter). So pretty much they were very like Atreyu. They were decent. Most of the people there weren't that into them, cause they're not like KH...but it was REALLY REALLY funny when like a group of like 14 yr olds started a Circle Pit HILLARIOUS.
ComasoftProbably my favorite band of the night (well, other than KH of course). They're from Chicago. They fit in the best, musically with Kill Hannah, for sure. They kind of have an industrial/dark wave/electopop type of sound. I'm quite in love with them now. They kind of sound like Orgy (who I love) and they covered a Placebo song (it sounded hawt). They put a lot into the presentation. The had a projector set up and while they played scenes from movies and music videos played on it. Very cool. After the show my sister and I talked to the singer, Jay. He was way nice (and hot hehe).
Gotta love the star barrett he's wearing =)
StrataBy the time they came on I was exhausted and starving. I almost left the crowd before they came on but decided to try and stick it out since I was only ONE person from the barricade and I didn't want to lose my spot. Fortunately just a little bit into their set I started feeling better. I really wasn't that into Strata. They seemed a bit boring to me...I kept yawning during their set...but tat may have been just cause I was so tired. I think if I wasn't so tired and my feet and such weren't hurting so much, I would've liked them a bit more. My sister really dug them. They're from California and the singer said something along the lines of "It's so cold here you guys are crazy for living here...but I think the coldness makes you guys stronger" =)
KILL HANNAHSO GREAT. Really. I don't even know what to say. They pretty much played songs from their most recent album Until There's Nothing Left of Us (I believe they did "Life In The Attic", "Believer", "Songs That Saved My Life", "Black Poison Blood", "Lips Like Morphine", "Love You To Death", "Scream" and "Crazy Angel") and quite a few from For Never & Ever(For sure they did "Kennedy", "10 More Minutes With You", "Boys And Girls" they did some others but I can't remember for sure, but I think they did "From Now On" and maybe "They Can't Save Us Now"...they probably did "Unwanted" but in all honesty I don't remember them doing it) and they played only One song from older albums ("Hummingbirds The Size of Bullets") even though Mat was like "It's nice when we get to headline shows cause then we can do our old stuff too" and then they only did ONE old song. =(
Wow after typing all those songs it makes it seem a lot longer...during the show I thought their set seemed quite short, guess not.
nnnMat said something along the lines of "I'm glad we're finally able to do a Good show in Grand Rapids. A lot of our friends from Chicago come from GR" I guess that means I'm not the only person from West Michigan who wants to be in Chicago
While doing their encore, the people at the club got on the PA and were like "we are 15 minutes past curfew already. Leave the stage NOW". Mat continued to talk and stuff and the guy kept going on the PA to tell them to leave the stage...then after the show they kicked everyone out of the venue...so my sister and I waited and talked to the guys outside (where it was cold
)
The set was so great. We were really close and I think my pictures turned out really well. I took my mom's really nice camera =)
Ok. Crazy Texas LadyI think this is the woman who said they were from TX....
There was a crazy woman (and by woman I mean older woman she was probably in 40's) right in front of me. At the beginning of the show, she tells the girl beside her "I will probably be leaving and coming back to my spot a lot". Then she turns to me and says "I just want to warn you I head bang a lot and if I hit you I'm sorry. But last night I head banged sooo much *she demonstrates* that my neck and head hurt really bad so now I probably just have to head bang like this *demonstrates a weird slow motion mini-headbang*" HAHAHAHA. It was hillarious and weird. Before the first band even hit the stage she had already had TWO drinks and she kept leaving the crowd and coming back with more. By KH time she was like wasted. She smelled like really gross vanilla and it made me nausaeous...fortunately when strata was on and I was feeling blah, she wasn't in the crowd she was back at the bar, otherwise I probably would've gotten really sick.
THEN. During kill hannah's set, she kept like almost passing out (I think she did once...). She'd like slump over the barricade and her butt would push back and hit me, and it kept pushing me off the riser that is there GRRR. It's like if you can't handle being in the crowd GET OUT. It kind of pissed me off.
