I love The Great Gatsby, though I'm not usually as drawn to classic novels. I had to read it in 11th grade. I also had to read Of Mice & Men that year and I actually liked that too. Also read Old Man & The Sea by Hemmingway HATED it sooooo much, probably my least fave book ever (though i do like some of Hemmingway's other work). We're getting ready to read the Great Gatsby in AP this year. And I liked Of Mice and Men. I think it's good that I did 'cause we've refered to it for the past two years. I read Old Man in the Sea.. Actually over the summer I think. It was good after I realised there's a point to the story. Something good if anyone needs a book is Albert Camus' The Stranger, and a little Shakespeare couldn't hurt anybody XDD As for books I haven't read in school, has anyone read these: A Density of Souls Christopher Rice Dark Heart ?? it's a composition of two authors, and I think one of them is Margaret Weiss Gone, But Not Forgotten Phillip Marlogin Less Than Zero Bret Easton Ellis Those are all my favourite books ^^

I've never read any of those. i'm a loser. hehe. I used to be an avid reader, before i started college and ever since then my reading for enjoyment has severely diminished.

I'm the same way, Kelli. I used to read all the time, but now I don't have much time to read for enjoyment due to classes. It sucks. :[

yes, it sucks majorly. Hopefully once i'm done w/ school i'll have more time and patience for reading...i think even if i get a job, since i won't have to read tons of chapters for a job, i should feel like reading more, when i'm not working.

I used to read a lot (none of those up there I read this year unless they were for school). but now i'm in AP and all I have time to read is books assigned in english and the freakin' history text book. :// our German FES was like, "you look bored. i get you book for christmas" 'cause he's always reading HP in math class, and while he was doing that I disreguarded Macbeth and Edgar Allan Poe and started folding in the pages of my book to make a pretty shell looking thing :3

I did probably the coolest thing I can think of yesterday.
[suspense]
I read an entire 300 page book IN ONE DAY. It was Augusten Burrough's Running With Scissors (and no, I have not seen the movie). It was pretty good. That guy has one fucked up life. I finished The Vampire Armand a bit ago. It's the 5th in The Vampire Chronicles, I believe. I read Interview With A Vampire, liked it, and skipped straight to this one because Armand was my favorite. It was a decent book, but it took me a while to finishe because I felt like it dragged on a bit much towards the end. Deren is going to lend me Dry tomorrow, I just checked out The Neverending Story from the library, and we're starting 1984 in English. I love books.

I recently finished both The Devil Wears Prada and Angels & Demons recently. Liked Prada, loved A&D. I've never read the never ending story, but I liked that movie as a kid. We didn't have to read 1984 in English. High school english we read: Alas, Babylon, The Great Gatsby, Old Man & The Sea, Lord Of The Flies and Of Mice & Men....and of course tons of Shakepeare, Short Stories and Poems. My school is't very much into literature I suppose ...that's what I get for going to a hick school.

I loved both Angels and Demons and The Devil Wears Prada. We read The Great Gatsby next year, and we read Lord of the Flies last year. I hated that book. We have massive reading lists, and next year we'll be reading about 10 books. Shiiit. I can only imagine the slew of rediculous analytic esays we'll be writing.

We read The Great Gatsby next year, and we read Lord of the Flies last year. I hated that book. That's the same years we read them. =) i somewhat liked Lord of The Flies...it was a 1,000 times better than old man and the sea. I absolutely despise that book.

I finished Dry and I'm reading Neuromancer right now. I've never really read much sci-fi/cyberpunk literature and I heard this is one of the best, so I thought it'd be interesting. It's about this guy who's a data spy and he steals from one of his employers and they fry his nerves. Then, this other guy offers to fix his nervous system if he goes back into the matrix and gets this other data for him etc etc. I'm not 100% into it, but it's cool to read something different than I usually do. After this, I'm reading Glamorama and The Neverending Story. Oh yeah, and 1984 in school. Woo!

I never had to read 1984. Let me know how it is, so I know if I should bother adding it to my long list of books to read.

Our summer reading last year for AP was 1984 and Frankenstein, and I thought 1984 was alright and most people liked it a lot, but I liked Frankenstein better. A Tale of Two Cities is really good once you get into it, it's slow at the beginning, but I was entranced by the end.

I know some of you have read To Kill A Mocking Bird and in some schools it's required...but is it something worth reading for leisure?

I feel like revitalizing the book thread.
I really haven't been reading much lately (unless it's on a computer screen)...so have any of you read anything that you would recommend?
